Headed to Hell From the Harlot's
House
(Prov 7:27) Her house is the way
to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
Our country and our world are crumbling around us.
Where did it start? It wasn’t so long ago that our society was very
different than it is now. The almost daily mass murders and people
committing all kinds of atrocious acts were a very rare thing just a
couple of decades ago. We that are 45 or older grew up in a world
where children were safe to be out anywhere without being guarded
every minute. Now things are different and you are a fool if you let
your children out of your sight in public or even at church. It is
approaching the same state the world was in during Noah’s day when
God said the earth was corrupt, filled with violence, and that all
flesh had corrupted God’s way upon the earth.
There is a path from where we were to where we are now. No society
changes so drastically overnight. There is a starting point. There
is a key that unlocks a passageway into the dark dungeon of sin in
which we find our world imprisoned today. There is one particular
sin that is like the atomic bomb of sins. It is like the bowling
ball that knocks all the pins down. When the door to this sin is
breached there is nothing left that remains holy. Sexual sin is the
beginning of all moral decay; it is that starting point. Yet most
people do not connect that sin with all the others. They think
sexual promiscuity and immorality aren’t related at all to violence
and evil. They believe that you can remove all the morality from
sexual activity and still retain morality in everything else, but it
never works that way. The self-destruction of a person or of a
society begins when the God-given restraints are removed from sexual
activity.
Intimacy between a man and wife is not something that man invented.
It was God’s idea and it is a most holy thing. It is a very
important thing in our lives and it was a gift of God meant to bless
and enrich our lives and our relationship with our spouse. There is
nothing evil about it as long as it is within the bounds of marriage
as prescribed by God. God made the limits very clear and He also
prescribed the most severe punishment for the abuse and misuse of
this great blessing – namely, the death penalty. It is a very
serious crime in God’s sight – no matter how the present society
looks at it. Any sexual activity outside of marriage is sin –
period, and further than that, the Bible makes it clear that it is
abomination to God.
Of all the sins that man can commit sexual sin brings the most pain,
the most destruction, and the most confusion.
(1 Cor 6:18) Flee fornication.
Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that
committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
You may be forgiven but you will
forever bear the scars. Rahab was always “Rahab the harlot.” I would
venture to say that more Christians today know about David’s
adultery than about the fact that he wrote the 23rd Psalm. Others
may forget, but you will never forget. You will never think of
yourself in the same way again. You have lowered your own opinion of
yourself no matter what others think of you. You have sold your
birthright for a bowl of pottage – you traded the most valuable
thing you possessed for a moment of pleasure. When that moment it is
over you immediately realize you have done something very foolish,
but it is too late.
When a person breaks through this barrier and commits fornication or
adultery the path leads downward very steeply, and very quickly.
Once you have committed the “scarlet sin” all other sins do not look
as bad. “What difference is it going to make if I tell a lie now?”
“What does it matter what I do now?” So generally, sexual immorality
leads to a low life of sin of every sort. It is awful what this sin
does to the soul of the one who commits it, but it is even more
awful what it does to the others that are hurt by it. Adultery
destroys the soul of the adulterer, but it also wrecks permanent
havoc in the soul of his or her mate. More than that it damages the
souls of the children and wrecks their lives as well. Sexual sin
poisons forever the marriage bed. You bring someone else into your
holy of holies and it isn’t so holy anymore. Even if they aren’t
there now, you have memories and your spouse has an imagination. You
will have company in the place where God meant for only the two of
you.
It is a mystery to me why the people of our day, and especially
those who call themselves Christians, cannot connect the dots
between this sin and the moral bankruptcy that it causes. All this
violence we are seeing is directly related to the sexual immorality
of our society. It is not only those who are practicing the
immorality who are to blame. The apathetic attitude of those who are
supposed to be God’s people is to blame, also. The fact is that most
who call themselves Christians have watched so many TV programs and
movies and have so many bed-jumping members in their own families
that they don’t really see anything so wrong with it anymore. But
the Bible is clear on the fact that all sexual sins are an
abomination to God! Even people who sit in church every Sunday talk
freely about things that no one used to talk about and they do so
with crude and vulgar language. They joke and laugh about things
that should be thought of as sacred and holy. They reveal secret
things to others that no one should ever know about except their
spouse. They enjoy buying and watching movies where the actors
commit adultery and fornication. They enjoy listening to worldly
music whose main theme is adultery and fornication. They pay to have
TV broadcasting piped into their homes and sit and watch hours of
programs and commercials whose theme is almost always an enticement
to sexual sin. So for all practical purposes they are more in
agreement with this ungodly society we live in than with God and his
Word and therefore share the blame and will give account to God for
it.
(Rom 1:32) Who knowing the
judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of
death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Do you wonder why churches are in the
news so much these days because of sexual sin and sex crimes right
in the churches? I just told you why. They are feeding from the same
hog trough the world feeds from and our world is dishing out pure
garbage. And when was the last time you heard a preacher preach
against adultery or fornication or perverts? They are telling
stories, or jokes, or talking about “soul-winning” and church
building, or something else while the fornicators, the adulterers,
and the perverts are scanning the pews looking for their next fix.
God, give us some MEN in the pulpits who will have eyes to see and
the backbone to expose these creeps and put them out of the church
before they ruin any more lives and bring reproach on the church of
Jesus Christ!
Purity may be out of style with the world, but the world is headed
for the judgment of God and it is coming soon. Purity is never out
of style with God and it shouldn’t be out of style with God’s
people. It is high time the people of God wake up and go back to the
place where this mess started. Right now the church is a mockery to
the world because they know that the church is as promiscuous as
they are. Several of these big mega-churches have been in the news
recently because of some sermon series they are doing on sex. They
use erotic pictures in their ads to promote their sermons on sex and
give the appearance of a pornographic movie or an adult book store
instead of a place where God’s Word is preached.
God and his “rules” about sex had to be removed before this so
called “sexual revolution” could happen. That is one of the great
failures of the church and of the men of God. More of them should
have been crying aloud and sparing not, and more should be doing so
now. Silence is consent! Instead of giving “how to” lessons and
encouraging fornication and adultery preachers should be preaching
the law of God about this matter. God’s way is the only way it will
work and be a blessing. Throw off the commandments of God and it
will be turned into a curse – for the individual, for a nation, or
for the world.
